It came to me a few days ago to look up Brother Joe to see if he was still around. Sadly I found he was not.
I thought of him as a mentor after I was saved April 10, 1983, at Tulsa Baptist Temple. After I came to Christ Brother Joe said, "Now I really am your Brother." He was the one I went to when I knew that God wanted us in Elko, NV, but the way seemed blocked. He prayed with me and a few weeks later God opened the door wide that we were needed in Elko. We moved there shortly after and spent the next five years helping to establish a church.
Then we moved to Winnemucca, NV where I was the founding pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church for seven years before leaving. Since then we have been helping another church in Winnemucca. In many other ways God has used us and I credit Brother Joe with getting us started in ministry.
He was the one who baptized a member of our Sunday School Class for Special Needs Adults. The student was a big man and not particularly cooperative when Brother Joe was trying to, and managed to, get him completely under the water. My first ever hospital visit was with Brother Joe.
Our son Joey had three boys and the youngest is attending Brother Joe's alma mater, Bob Jones University, preparing for the ministry. My wife, Bernadette, and I will have been married 50 years on May 25, this year. Brother Joe will always have a special place in my heart and I look forward to seeing him again in heaven.

We are thankful that this past March our family had the privilege of getting to spend time with Pastor Joe & Shari! We had been serving overseas as missionaries for the past 21 years so it had been a long time since we had last visited together.
